I’ve developed this Chrome extension that takes any number from a website that you select/highlight and adds it to a box that you can open and close in the browser window. The use case is this… it copies a BTC amount into your clipboard automatically and allows you to immediately convert that number to $ USD so you can quickly calculate and understand how much that BTC amount is equivalent to in fiat.
The same can be done with the tool from USD->BTC (and soon many other currencies).
Not only will it automatically copy/paste the amount and convert if for you, it will also take multiple numbers that you’ve added to it and will calculate a total (add or subtract the numbers and present a calculated total BTC or USD that you have entered. For example, you highlight and add five different BTC amounts on a webpage, you can then specify whether an entry should be positive (+) or negative (-) number. It will then add and subtract each amount accordingly and present you with the total.
Where this could come in handy, for example, is when you are trading altcoins for bitcoin and you buy/sell back and forth. Your exchange might list the amount you bought, like 0.47832234 BTC and the amount you sold, like 0.59337129 BTC. You would highlight those two numbers and specify which one should be (+) and which should be (-) and it will give you a quick idea of how much BTC you profited in that trade. You can then get a rough idea of how much USD that total amounts to at today’s current BTC->USD exchange rate.
